Payroll outsourcing for plants in Baja California

Payroll at a maquiladora looks nothing like payroll at an office. Shifts, Sunday premium, profit sharing and expatriates share the same period, and each one has its own rule.

  • Weekly, biweekly or monthly payroll calculation, on your cycle
  • Filing of payroll receipts with the tax authority
  • Calculation and filing of IMSS, Infonavit and the state payroll tax
  • Sunday premium, overtime, disability leave and severance
  • Profit sharing and its annual calculation
  • Japanese expatriate staff and their double taxation treatment

Shifts and Sunday premium

A plant that runs on Sunday generates a Sunday premium even when Sunday is a working day of the shift. It is one of the calculations I most often find wrong when reviewing payroll from a company arriving from another firm.

The expatriate

Staff sent from Japan usually pay tax in both countries. The treatment depends on the Mexico-Japan double taxation treaty and on how the assignment is structured. I review it case by case, not with a general rule.

Profit sharing

It is the calculation that arrives once a year and breaks the budget of anyone who did not plan for it. I estimate it from each monthly close so your corporate office sees it coming with time to spare.

A twenty minute call is enough to know whether I am useful to you. I will tell you what I would do differently and what it would cost, with no obligation and no sales pitch.
